Odell Grade School Welcomes Mr. Mark A. Hettmansberger, Superintendent

August 11, 2011

I would like to thank everyone for visiting our website.  I hope that you found what you were looking for and that this site was a valuable resource to you.  It is our goal at Odell Grade School to be as accommodating as possible and to operate in an open environment.

This is my first school year at Odell Grade School and I am excited about the direction of the district. I trust that our ideals, academic performance and athletic opportunities will continue to provide our students with a well-rounded education which will be sustained beyond the walls of the classroom. To everything that this school district stands for, I hope that your school year is a great one.  I have already met many of you and I look forward to meeting the rest of you as soon as possible. Please know that my door is always open and that I would love the opportunity to meet with you.

We have a lot of really neat things going on in our district and this summer has been very busy.  All the restrooms have had plumbing upgrades that include more energy efficient toilets and sinks.  In addition, the kitchen has a pair of new convection ovens that will allow us to continue serving great hot lunches on a daily basis.  We have also had a new sidewalk put in on the south end of the building which will assist with our afternoon dismissal.

As for me, this might be my first year at Odell, but it’s my 15th year in education.  After graduating from the University of Illinois, I started my teaching career teaching 6th grade at Southview Middle School in Danville.  After 1 year there I moved on to teach History at Catlin High School for 8 years.  My time at Catlin was very special to me because that was my home town and I was able to fulfill a dream of mine; to coach basketball for the school that I had played for.  I started my administrative career as the K-12 principal at Shiloh.  I served as principal there for 5 years before accepting this position.

I very much look forward to the opportunity to work with the great staff at Odell.  I have been very impressed with the commitment, dedication, and effort of our staff.  In a day in which most districts are failing to make AYP, it’s easy to see why Odell continues to have academic success.  I trust that 2011-2012 will be a great school year for all of our students.

Yours in education,

Mark A. Hettmansberger
